Beat the heat

"oh, you wont like this place", they said then I first came here, almost 3 1/2 years back.
Why not?
cos the summers are way tooooo hot and dry, the heat is punishing and tiring, it averages 96 !
he he I thought
Can’t be that bad, I have lived in hotter places, surely this won’t bother me.

That conversation has played on my mind time and again, especially when I’m ticked-off by the weather.
Of late, the re-runs have been too fast and furious.
Recently, the mention of the great California power blackout of 2001, caused a shudder in the group.
It was a rude shock, it disrupted life, and no one knew what to do without power.

Life is so dependent on the basic grid.

Ha ah , no biggie that one.
Come on, - you guys are fussing over a single power cut?

But, this is silly.
You need to be in India - doesn’t matter what part, to know what power cuts are.
Oh boy, we have cuts without warning, any day, any time and life goes on...
How we take electricity for granted and appreciate it as well.

Too hot? Just gulp some tamarindo, or hochata or whatever and get going.

Some deaths across the US in recent days are being linked to the heat wave
And the risk of rolling blackouts still remains.

The mercury notched up 110 F last weekend, breaking the summer all time high record in July. That was crazy simply too much for me to handle, and I’m already worrying about dehydrating and sun burns.

To beat the heat, we decided to go swimming to the river. Friends were not so surprised knowing us.

‘Should be insane to go out in this heat’, they muttered.
‘Not us, it’s the heat that's insane’.
‘No, thanks, we'll turn the AC full speed and watch a flick’.
‘Hey, the grid might trip’!
‘No worries, we'll take the risk’, they said.

Some friends!

So, my husband and I with our daughter in tow, just to be 'cool-er' we drove up to the foothills where the snow melts and flows down in streams.

'Sun, stop it !', my daughter shouted with indignation. 'Go away' ! If only Mr Sun was listening, we rolled our eyes .
Sure enough, the water was cool and inviting, and we soaked around for as long as we could.
Ah, that should do it we thought. Now we are cool and can relax.
But a minute out of the water, and I kid you not, the sun were beating on us. We walked faster to our car, and drove off.
The swim was refreshing and fun, yet we wondered should we have stayed home sipping our Avocado es teler ?

Nah ! The river was too good, the air was still hot, and we did our 2 bit for not straining the California power supply.
